big & easy ruffled flower tutorial

You can make this fun flower in five minutes.

Here's what you need:

Felt
Ribbon or strips of fabric (I cut a t-shirt)
Hot glue gun
Pretty button (optional)

Ok. Let's get started.

First cut out a circle of felt a bit smaller than you want your finished flower. And wonky circles are perfectly acceptable!

Next, grab your ribbon or cut up strips of fabric. Again, no need to be perfect.

Then squirt out a line of hot glue around the edge of your circle. You'll have to decide how long of a line to do. It pretty much depends on how quick you are with the next step. You don't want to put loads of glue and have it harden up before you get to it.

Then go around the circle with your fabric/ribbon being sure to ruffle or pleat it as you go. Oh, and simply tuck the end of the ribbon towards the center so the rough edge won't be seen when you're done.

Continue going around your circle, adding more glue where needed and layering your fabric.

For the middle, it's handy to have something you can poke the fabric into the glue in the center with.

Um....but probably not a great idea to use your super nice Gingher scissors. Oops.

If you'd like, you can stop here and pop a cute button into the center of your flower. Or maybe a smaller fabric or ribbon flower.

Or keep adding fabric and when you have enough, glue the end into the middle.

Now put that flower wherever you want....pretty packages, purses, wreaths, clip or a headband....

Voila! You're done. Easy right? Now, make loads and loads!

I certainly did..

I made a smaller rolled ribbon flower for the center of this one.

For this big cluster headband (which was so much fun to make) I made that big black flower with crocheted ribbon and the polka dotted flower with regular grosgrain ribbon.

I love how this glittery ribbon flower turned out! I think this one is my daughter's favorite.

Have fun making flowers!

And let me know if you have any questions.
